About Me
The personality trait that best describes my attitude on goals is tenacious. When I didn’t get into my chosen graduate school the first year, I made an appointment with the dean to discuss what classes I was missing and was admitted the program the following year. When I decided I wanted to give something back to the ocean I loved, I found both paid and volunteer positions to make me eligible for a job at a non-profit doing just that. Even something as simple as wondering why my pepper plants kept dying spurred me to do research and try new techniques until I had a thriving pepper garden.
But tenacity alone does not solve problems or answer questions. It is the mindset that allows for the discovery and analysis of what does solve problems- data. My interest in the power of data was what led me to the world of GIS. While looking for new ways to understand the data I’d been collecting in the marine sciences field, I found a spatial aspect to data that turned potentially static data into something dynamical and interactional. The possibilities with GIS are endless and new opportunities that utilize GIS keep evolving as industries incorporate it into their business model. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that evolution, to use my past experiences in the field of science to help translate data for policy makers, stakeholders and the public. I devoted myself full time to the completion of an Enterprise GIS and in June 2022, I completed my education goal. After being further inspired by the projects on display and the informational presentations at the Esri UC in San Diego in July 2022, I knew I had made the right choice.
